ABHIJITH & ATHIRA's story
From College Benches to Wedding Bells
It all began on a rainy June morning on our Kerala campus — new beginnings, nervous smiles, and a boy two benches ahead who barely noticed me. Our love story wasn’t instant; it grew with shared notes, quiet laughs, and canteen walks. He wasn’t loud, but his silence spoke volumes to me. We bonded over filter coffee, Malayalam movies, and college chaos. One day, under a shared umbrella, he softly said, “Njan ninne ishtamanu.” That was us — simple, real, unspoken magic. Time moved on — from lectures to long-distance, from exams to careers. We grew, we fought, but we held on. And now, as I prepare to be his bride, I carry with me every moment — every monsoon, every memory, every version of us. From college benches to wedding bells — this is our forever.

HALDHI
e Haldi ceremony in a Kerala Hindu wedding is a vibrant and auspicious pre-wedding ritual filled with color, fragrance, and heartfelt blessings. Known locally as Ubtan, this ceremony is traditionally held at the bride’s and groom’s homes a day or two before the wedding, marking the beginning of the sacred wedding festivities.
Close family members and friends gather early in the morning, dressed in elegant kasavu sarees and mundus, their faces glowing with excitement and love. A paste made from fresh turmeric, sandalwood, and coconut oil is lovingly applied to the bride and groom’s face, hands, and feet. This sacred mixture is believed to cleanse, purify, and bless the couple, preparing them for their new life together.
DJ NIGHT
As the wedding celebrations reach their crescendo, the Kerala DJ Night brings alive the spirit of togetherness, music, and dance under one roof. The evening starts with traditional tunes that gradually blend into peppy beats, mixing Malayalam hits with popular Bollywood and international tracks.
Friends and family, dressed in their festive best — crisp mundus, colorful sarees, and glittering jewelry — take over the dance floor. The DJ spins a lively playlist that gets everyone on their feet, from young cousins to doting grandparents, breaking all generations into joyous celebration.
The night is filled with laughter, swirling dancers, and the rhythmic pulse of the music, celebrating not just the union of two souls but the coming together of families. With vibrant lights, thumping bass, and heartfelt cheers, the Kerala DJ Night creates memories that linger long after the wedding day ends — a perfect blend of tradition and modern fun.

TEMPLE VISIT
A temple visit holds a special place in Kerala Hindu weddings, symbolizing divine blessings for the couple’s new journey together. Usually, the bride and groom, dressed in traditional attire — the bride in a kasavu saree and the groom in a white mundu — visit the temple either on the wedding day or during pre-wedding rituals.
The air is filled with the fragrance of incense and fresh flowers as the couple offers prayers to Lord Shiva, Bhagavathy, or other deities, seeking prosperity, health, and harmony. The temple priests perform sacred rituals, chanting Vedic mantras that echo through the serene sanctum.
This visit is not just spiritual but deeply communal, often accompanied by close family members. It connects the couple to their roots, culture, and the divine, blessing their union with grace and strength. The temple visit is a serene moment of reflection amid the joyous celebrations, reminding everyone of the sacredness of marriage.
MARRIAGE
The Nambiar community, a prominent Hindu group in northern Kerala, celebrates weddings with deep-rooted customs that beautifully blend devotion, family, and festivity. A traditional Nambiar wedding is a grand affair that honors age-old rituals passed down through generations, reflecting their rich cultural heritage.
The celebrations begin with Nischayam — the formal engagement, where families exchange gifts and affirm the alliance. The wedding day is marked by vibrant ceremonies, starting with the Kashi Yatra, where the groom humorously announces his intention to renounce worldly life, only to be persuaded to marry.
The bride, dressed in a radiant kasavu saree adorned with gold jewelry, is welcomed into the groom’s home with traditional rituals. The couple takes the sacred Saptapadi — seven steps together around the holy fire — symbolizing their vows for a life of companionship, love, and duty.
PAYYANTE VEETIL POKU
In a traditional Kerala Nambiar wedding, the arrival of the bride at the groom’s house marks a deeply significant and joyous moment. After the grand wedding ceremony, the bride is warmly welcomed into her new home with age-old customs that symbolize acceptance, respect, and the beginning of a new chapter.
As the bride steps into the groom’s house, she is often greeted by the family elders with Aarti — a ritual of waving a lamp in circular motions to ward off negative energies and invoke blessings. The soft glow of the lamp reflects the warmth and love awaiting her in this new family.
This post-welcoming phase is not just about rituals; it is a heartfelt celebration of unity, where the bride becomes an integral part of the groom’s family — carrying forward traditions, love, and shared dreams.
MARRIAGE RECEPTION
The marriage reception in a Kerala Nambiar wedding is a grand celebration, where family and friends come together to bless the newlyweds and share in their joy. Once the formal reception concludes—with heartfelt speeches, blessings, and joyous greetings—the festivities gently transition into more intimate and traditional post-wedding customs.
After the reception, the bride and groom return to the groom’s home, where the atmosphere is warm and festive but filled with deeper cultural significance. Here, the bride begins to settle into her new role as a daughter-in-law, surrounded by loving relatives who guide and support her in this transition.
The bride also partakes in community visits and family gatherings, strengthening bonds and embracing her new social circle. Traditional music, such as Chenda Melam, occasionally accompanies these occasions, reminding everyone of their cultural roots.
DJ NIGHT
s the formalities of the marriage reception wind down, the celebration shifts into high gear with the electrifying DJ Night—a perfect blend of tradition and modern fun. The entire venue transforms into a vibrant dance floor, illuminated by colorful lights and pulsing to upbeat beats.
Family and friends, dressed in their finest festive attire, let loose and celebrate the union with dance and laughter. The DJ spins a lively mix of popular Malayalam hits, Bollywood chartbusters, and international dance numbers that get everyone—from young cousins to elders—moving to the rhythm.
The joyous energy fills the air as generations come together, breaking free from formalities to share unforgettable moments of happiness. The dance floor becomes a space where old and new traditions meet, with spontaneous performances, group dances, and endless smiles.
