Haldi
The Haldi ceremony is one of the most joyful and heartwarming pre-wedding rituals in Indian weddings. It usually takes place a day or two before the wedding. In this ceremony, a special paste made of turmeric (haldi), sandalwood, rosewater, and sometimes milk or yogurt is applied to the bride and groom by their close family and friends.
Tandul
Tandul means rice, and in this ritual, the bride and groom are each given a small packet or handful of rice by their parents or elders. They are then supposed to gently throw the rice over each other’s heads. This act symbolizes abundance, prosperity, and goodwill. It’s also seen as a playful, light-hearted exchange, where both the bride and groom offer their blessings and good wishes to each other for a happy married life. The white rice, being pure and sacred, represents purity of heart and intentions. It’s a way of saying, “I wish you a life filled with happiness, peace, and prosperity.”
Saptapadi
Saptapadi, meaning "seven steps", is one of the most sacred and significant rituals in a Hindu wedding, including Marathi weddings. It symbolizes the beginning of the couple’s journey together as husband and wife. During this ritual, the bride and groom take seven steps around the sacred fire (Agni), which is considered the witness to the marriage. With each step, they make a vow to each other — promising love, loyalty, mutual respect, and lifelong companionship.
