Umer & Monica's story
Hi, I’m Moni! ❤️ Our story began in December 2016 with a completely random Facebook comment that led me to the love of my life. What started as a mistaken reply soon turned into endless chats, laughter, and a bond that only grew stronger. We first met during the Jallikattu protest, and from there, our journey blossomed—from high school sweethearts to navigating a long-distance relationship through college. Food has always been our shared love, inspiring us to create Salem Foodie Stories, a page that let us explore flavors and work as a team. Through every stage, we became not just partners but best friends and each other’s biggest supporters. Coming from different faiths, we knew challenges could arise, but with patience and honesty, we earned the love and blessings of both families. Now, after nearly nine years of growing together, we’re finally ready to say forever. Join us as we celebrate our union with two beautiful ceremonies, honoring both our cultures. 🥰
Day 1Wednesday, January 14, 2026Salem
Starting time (approximately): 7:00 PM
Venue and host contact details will be disclosed upon booking.
Sukhrana
The Sukhna begins with the bride’s graceful entry, accompanied by music and traditional ululations. Elder women bless her with Nalungu—applying sandalwood for prosperity and purity—before she is taken inside, as she cannot witness the groom’s rituals. The groom then arrives with his family, warmly welcomed with seer thattu (gift trays of fruits, sweets, clothes, perfumes, etc.), which are exchanged between families. He too undergoes Nalungu, receiving blessings for strength and happiness. Following tradition, the bride and groom remain apart throughout. Guests enjoy engaging activities, cultural music, henna, and photo moments while a lavish feast—featuring biryani, parottas, sweets, mocktails, and live counters—is served, making the evening both sacred and festive.
Day 2Thursday, January 15, 2026Salem

Nikkah
The Nikah is a sacred and authentic Muslim wedding ceremony. It begins with the bride and groom signing the marriage contract separately, affirming their consent before witnesses. Once the Nikah is complete, the groom formally calls for his bride, and together they make their first appearance as husband and wife. The ceremony then flows into a grand celebration, where family and friends gather to bless the couple, enjoy a lavish feast of traditional delicacies, and share in the joy of this beautiful union.
