Marriage
A Marathi wedding is a traditional Hindu marriage ceremony from Maharashtra, known for its simplicity, elegance, and meaningful rituals. It usually takes place over one or two days and begins with small pre-wedding ceremonies. On the wedding day, the bride wears a traditional silk saree (often Paithani) with green bangles, while the groom wears a dhoti-kurta and a traditional headgear called a pheta. A unique feature is the “mundavalya,” pearl strings tied across the couple’s foreheads. The ceremony happens before a sacred fire, and during “Saptapadi,” the couple takes seven steps together, making vows for a happy married life, followed by blessings and a festive meal.
