Hardiyahi

The word Hardiyahi comes from “Haldi (turmeric)”, and it is similar in purpose to the haldi ceremony but deeply rooted in local customs. Here’s what it means and why it matters: What happens in Hardiyahi A paste is prepared using turmeric, mustard oil, rice flour, and sometimes cow dung (symbolic of purity). Elder women of the family apply this paste to the bride and groom separately at their respective homes. During the ritual, women sing traditional folk songs and give blessings

barat
In a Chhattisgarhi wedding, Baraat (बरात) means the wedding procession of the groom that goes from the groom’s house to the bride’s village or home. What happens in the Baraat The groom (Dulha) travels with his family, relatives, friends, and villagers. People sing Chhattisgarhi folk songs and dance to the beat of mandar, dhol, and nagara drums. In traditional weddings, the groom often walks on foot or rides a simple vehicle, not a horse, showing humility and equality. The atmosphere is joyful, with clapping, dancing, and teasing songs. Cultural meaning Baraat is not just a procession—it symbolizes the groom’s family respectfully approaching the bride’s family. It shows community participation, where everyone celebrates together, not just close relatives. The music and dance announce happiness and mark the arrival of the groom
