About the hosts
Gautam & Shiwani's story
Shiwani and I met on a matrimonial site and slowly discovered a beautiful connection. Over 1.5 years of knowing each other, we realized how naturally we fit. She is warm, caring and incredible at what she does as an Affiliate Mobile Marketing Manager in Delhi. I work as a Recruitment Manager for a US staffing firm, and together we balance each other in the best ways.
Our wedding will take place in Darbhanga, Bihar, where our families live. Even though we are based in Delhi, we wanted to celebrate our special day in our hometown with full traditional village rituals, music, colors and the joy of everyone coming together. We would love to welcome guests from around the world to experience the culture, traditions and heartfelt warmth of an authentic Indian village wedding.

Haldi
In a Bihari wedding, the Haldi ceremony begins with elders applying a fresh turmeric paste on the bride or groom to bless them with purity, glow and protection. Relatives take turns applying Haldi on the face, arms and feet while singing traditional folk songs. The atmosphere stays joyful with laughter, teasing, and rituals that symbolize a fresh start before the wedding.
Mehndi Ceremony
Mehndi in a Bihari wedding is filled with music, laughter and family bonding. The bride’s hands and feet are decorated with detailed henna designs while women sing traditional songs and bless her new journey. Relatives apply a small bit of mehndi as a ritual of love, gifts are exchanged, and the atmosphere feels joyful and festive.
Puja and Matkor Ritual
Puja begins with families praying for a smooth and blessed wedding. After prayers, Matkor takes place where women carry clay pots and walk to a nearby pond or river. Soil is collected with songs and drums, symbolizing purity and the start of wedding rituals. The soil is later used in the mandap, marking the sacred beginning of the marriage ceremonies.
Mandap Decoration and Pre wedding Rituals
In a Bihari wedding, the mandap is decorated with fresh flowers, vibrant fabrics and traditional motifs. Before the ceremony, rituals like puja, matkor and family blessings take place to invite prosperity. Music, folk traditions and community involvement create a lively atmosphere as the couple prepares for their sacred vows.
Main Ceremony and Baraat Procession
The main ceremony begins at the mandap with priests chanting sacred mantras as the couple takes their vows, performs the pheras and completes the sindoor ritual. Families exchange blessings and shower rice for prosperity. The baraat arrives with music, dancing and traditional drums as the groom is welcomed with aarti. The event is vibrant, emotional and full of cultural joy.
