Rathan & Priyanka's story
Our journey began as two friends who never imagined that life would bring us to marriage. For six beautiful years, he was simply my best friend, the one I trusted and shared everything with. We never planned a love story, because what we had was a pure and strong friendship. Slowly, life took a turn when his mother lovingly brought up the idea of marriage. What surprised us both was how naturally everything started falling into place. I realised that sometimes the best relationships grow from the deepest friendships. I chose him because he has a kind and loving heart that makes me feel safe. His dedication to serving in the Indian Army fills me with pride and respect. He has always been someone who stands strong, both for the nation and for me. Today, we are stepping into a new chapter, not as just friends, but as partners for life. And I feel grateful that my best friend is becoming my husband.

Ganga water blessing ceremony
Ganga Pooja is the first and most sacred ritual in a Kannada marriage, performed to invite purity, divine blessings, and positive energy into the wedding home. This beautiful ceremony is a way of welcoming Goddess Ganga, seeking her grace to cleanse the surroundings and the hearts of everyone present. It sets a peaceful foundation for the days ahead, ensuring that the entire wedding begins on an auspicious and spiritually uplifting note. Families often decorate the space with fresh flowers, lamps, and fragrant turmeric water, creating a serene atmosphere for the ritual.
Balle Shastra Ceremony
After this, the traditional Bale Shastra is performed, which holds deep cultural significance. This ceremony is especially dedicated to the bride, blessing her as a sumangali and praying for a long, harmonious married life. Elders tie bangles to the bride with love and blessings, symbolising prosperity, fertility, and lifelong happiness. During Bale Shastra, women from both families join together, singing folk songs, clapping, dancing, and celebrating the moment with joy. This brings warmth, laughter, and unity, turning the ritual into a heart-warming gathering that strengthens family bonds.
Ase Shastra
Ganga Pooja is conducted on the first day of a Kannada marriage to invite purity, blessings, and positive energy into the wedding home. This ritual is meant to cleanse the surroundings and begin the celebrations on an auspicious note. After this, Bale Shastra is performed as per tradition. Bale Shastra is conducted to bless the bride as a sumangali and pray for her long, happy married life. It also marks the joyful beginning of the wedding festivities. During this ritual, women often sing, dance, and celebrate together. It creates a lively atmosphere filled with happiness and family bonding. Later, the Haldi ceremony is held according to shastra. The haldi paste is applied to the bride and groom for beauty, protection, and good luck. All these rituals together showcase the rich culture, values, and joy of a traditional Kannadiga marriage.

Next, the vibrant Haldi ceremony takes place according to shastra. A paste of turmeric, sandalwood, and rose water is applied to both the bride and groom. The second day of the marriage begins with the most sacred and awaited moment — the tying of the Mangalya. This divine thread is not just an ornament; it carries the essence of purity, devotion, and the lifelong bond between the bride and groom. As the groom ties the Mangalya around the bride’s neck, the atmosphere fills with blessings, chants, and the sound of auspicious music. This single moment transforms the couple into husband and wife, marking the beginning of a new chapter filled with love, trust, and togetherness. Elders shower them with heartfelt blessings, praying for their prosperous future, harmony, and strength through every phase of life.
Reception
Once the sacred rituals are completed, the celebrations continue with a lively and warm reception. Family members and friends gather with excitement, dressed in their festive best. The hall becomes vibrant with music, dance, laughter, and joyful conversations. The newly married couple receives greetings, gifts, and loving wishes from everyone present.
