MELVIN & Jesney's story
My fiancée and I are both from Kerala, India, but from different regions. Interestingly, we met in the U.S. while pursuing our Master’s degrees—she studied in Atlanta, while I was in Boston. After graduation, I landed a job as a developer in Atlanta, where she also started working.
What makes our story unique is our shared heritage from the Knanaya Community, a distinct Syrian Roman Catholic group with deep-rooted traditions. In Atlanta, I regularly attended the local Knanaya Church, but she, living farther away with relatives, wasn’t as frequent. Noticing the absence of a youth group, my friends and I started one, which is where we first met. Our shared faith and community involvement brought us closer, and soon, we fell in love.
Knanaya weddings are unlike regular Catholic weddings, as we follow centuries-old traditions that set them apart. I’m sure most people haven’t seen one, but it’s a truly special and meaningful ceremony.
Day 1Saturday, June 21, 2025Ernakulam, Puthuppady, Muvattupuzha
Starting time (approximately): 6:00 PM

Engagement & Mylanchi
It is going to be a celebration of the Engagement between us and then followed by a Mylanchi program which means :
Mylanchi Ideel is beautification of the bride with green henna paste. The meaning of the Knanaya henna ceremony is articulated by the mylaanji song and the ritual we do now. This celebration is more than a physical beautification. It reminds us of God’s creation of Eve from the rib of Adam and the original sin by eating the forbidden fruit. Since Eve plucked the fruit with her hands and walked on feet to gain it, the henna is applied on the hands and toes as a sign of forgiveness from sins.
Also the theme of the event is North Indian so is the dress code. At the end we will be having a Dj party as well
