Marriage
At dawn, the bride and groom bathe in the Mangala Snānam oil ritual at home, which cleanses and spiritually readies them for the sacred vows. Afterward, families gather for Ganapati Pooja to invoke Lord Ganesha’s blessings and Navagraha Homam for harmony. The groom playfully stages the Kashi Yatra, feigning renunciation until friends remind him of his marital duties. At the mandapam, the bride’s family welcomes the groom with an aarti and a turmeric‑kumkum tika. In the Mālavinai, the couple exchanges garlands three times, signifying mutual acceptance. During Oonjal, elders rock the couple on a decorated swing while chanting and tossing rice grains. The bride’s father performs Kanyā Dānam, placing her hand into the groom’s to entrust her well‑being. The groom ties the thali in Māngalyadhāraṇam, marking their bond, then they take seven steps in Saptapadi around the sacred fire. Elders shower rice mixed with turmeric as blessings, and prasadam is served before the grand banana leaf feast.
Reception
As evening falls, the reception hall transforms with twinkling lights and floral décor. Guests arrive in elegant attire, greeted by family with welcome drinks and snacks. A soft violin and flute ensemble plays as relatives mingle and capture moments. The bride and groom make a grand entrance to festive music, join a brief aarti ceremony, and hear a welcome speech. A ceremonial lamp is lit for blessings before dinner begins. Guests enjoy a buffet of biryani, curries, chutneys, and desserts. Between courses, a short cultural program features a Bharatanatyam performance by cousins, followed by a tribute video showcasing the couple’s journey. During the meal, toasts are offered by siblings and close friends. The couple then cuts a sweet wedding cake. Later, a DJ plays Tamil hits and popular songs as everyone dances. Photo booths invite candid snapshots, preserving joyful memories. At night’s end, the couple thanks guests and bids farewell, concluding a memorable reception. Memories linger.
