During the Haldi ceremony, a paste made from turmeric, sandalwood, rose water, and sometimes oil is applied to the bride and groom by their family and friends. This ritual is believed to bless the couple with good luck, glowing skin, and protection from evil spirits. The event usually takes place a day or two before the wedding and is marked by music, dance, laughter, and a bright yellow theme. Everyone dresses in yellow, and the mood is kept cheerful and playful, setting a festive tone for the upcoming wedding celebrations.
Mehandi
The Mehendi ceremony is a joyful and colorful pre-wedding tradition celebrated with music, dance, and lots of love. It usually takes place a day or two before the wedding and involves applying intricate henna designs on the bride’s hands and feet. Knot Tying Ceremony/Mangalya Dharana
Mangalya Dharana, Bharat ties the mangalsutra—a sacred thread or necklace—around the bride's neck, symbolizing their union as husband and wife. This is the most significant moment of the wedding ceremony. As he ties three knots, it represents the bond of mind, body, and soul. Sacred mantras are chanted by the priest, and the gathering showers blessings on the couple by throwing turmeric rice, known as akshatalu. The moment is filled with emotion, as it's the spiritual and traditional affirmation of the marriage, marking the beginning of their life together.
Baarat
In Telangana-style weddings, the Bharat (or Baraat) is a joyful procession of the groom and his family and friends as they make their way to the wedding venue. It’s full of music, dance, and celebration. The groom usually arrives on a decorated vehicle—sometimes even a horse or a fancy car—while everyone around him dances to the beat of the dhol or DJ music. It’s a public display of happiness and marks the arrival of the groom’s side.
